Spirit, Soul, and Body
“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again” —I Thessalonians 5:23
The Lord Jesus is the Light that gives us the right to become children of God who are forgiven of their sins (John 1). Yet it is through the walking out of salvation that our soul and body is conformed into His image. Understanding the spirit, soul, and body divide is critical to the Christian maturation process. Understanding the divide facilitates us in taking up our own cross and crucifying the corruptible part of our person. This crucifixion of the soul is what
from babes that drink milk, to meat eaters which sustain the fathers and mothers of our faith…as so many people stand on an experience they had with God. Feeling that would justify they placement with Him that experience is meant to conform you not to justify you in your sin…once we realize that the Spirit of the Lord is in us and whether we practice gifts or just have experiences with His presence does not mean our soul is being transformed or justified. From this place, we begin to ask ourselves hard questions why we have things in our personalities that do not align with the Heart of the Lord and as we abandon the notion of powerless grace we realize that the spirit in us is not only used by the Lord to communicate with us but used as a carrier of grace to transform our souls into His image. Which is why you will find mature Christians that have walked …in this their personalities will manifest the fruits of the spirit: patience, kindness, forbearance, gentleness, peace, joy etc. As Christians, we are called to be conformed to the image of Christ. Jesus is the firstborn from the dead and we are meant to participate in taking up our own cross in order to resurrect with Jesus indwelling.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit” (II Corinthians 3:18—NASB).
The soul embodies all that is thoughts, dreams, anxieties, excitements, all of your emotions…Greek word… it is the part that holds all of your disappointments and is the part that can be generationally cursed…the part that comes under attack by the enemy… a soul which has not submitted to the transformation of Jesus lives a life that resembles a march towards death as opposed to a conformed soul in alignment with the Father of Life living victoriously through eternity commencing here on earth…
The spirit is the incorruptible part of man—it is the part that already knows God intimately and was given to every person born in this world since the beginning of time. The spirit (lowercase s) is not to be confused with the Spirit or Holy Spirit (uppercase S). Jesus is “the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world” (John 1:9). Your spirit is what the Holy Spirit has dominion over and what is used to guide the transformation of our corrupted soul into a soul without “spot, blemish or wrinkle.” Your spirit is the part that God knew before we were formed in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5)… it is much like the soul, except the soul was formed by one’s own life experiences and is corruptible whereas the spirit is formed by His life experience and is given to us as a guide to live in His ways. The purpose of our spirit is to communicate with the Holy Spirit and for those that submit to the daily walking out of salvation, it guides the soul into Holy transformation and conformity into Jesus.
According to Holy Scriptures, followers of Jesus are to be partakers of the divine (I Perter 1). When we have a living, active indwelling God we are to overcome sin and death and grow in an illumination which lets our light shine before men in such a way that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). We intimately understand, this is a journey but a journey that begins… So why are there those that claim to have accepted an in indwelling Jesus with no evidence of growing fruit of the spirit or increasing illumination from the Father of Lights (James 1)? Those who submit to a soul transformation are…

Although many of us at Dayspring Ministry began decades ago the transformation of the soul by turning and walking in “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” several of us missed that Jesus was also inviting our natural body into a way, a truth and a life.
